Hola Everyone

Well this week we had interviews with President MacArthur on Friday. We also did some practices with Sister MacArthur while we were waiting. Elder Salmon and I went second to last for interviews because he is a District Leader so we were at the church until almost 4:00. Felipe came to church again yesterday. He is Elizabeth's son and he is 18. He is interested in the church because he has seen how much it has changed his mom's life but he isn't 100% ready to commit to listening to the lessons but he continues to come to church so hopefully soon he decides he is ready (for my own personal satisfaction). This week went by slow for me, but fast at the same time. Each individual day was slow but the week overall went by quickly. We had a noche de hogar on Saturday night with some members, Laura and Mauricio. They are both super awesome and they understand what the church is about. There was a ton of food. Everyone here loves the brownies that we make so we continue to make them. For Mother's Day we made no-bake cookies and took them around to some of the Hermanas in the branch. People here find American desserts incredible. The brownies we make for example are okay, but nothing compared to the ones in the states. Well that is about it for this week. I love and miss you all. I hope you all have a great week!

With love,

Elder Jayson Welker

Hola Everyone

Well this week went by pretty slow for me. The language is still a struggle and to add on top of it we didn't find or teach very many people. We did teach Elizabeth's son Felipe. He has come to church twice now on his own and is thinking about baptism. So that is pretty much the only success we had this week. So to cheer ourselves up we made doughnuts again. And they were way better this time. We had another small earthquake on Tuesday at 6:58 am (it woke me up and shorted me 2 mintues of sleep). It rained on Thursday and continued through the night until Friday morning and then stopped. And since then it has been pretty warm. Sounds like Idaho weather. It gets pretty cold at nights and all we have is a little tiny heater that we can have on until we go to bed. So it's cold in the mornings to say the least. And on Friday we were walking back to our house to change to play soccer, and a drunk guy stopped us and was talking to us. He started telling us a story and pulled out a decently sized knife and lunged forward towards me. I stepped back pretty quick and raised my fists ready to fight if I had to and he apologized and told us that he is a christian and would never do that. So that was kinda scary I guess. And then the next night, Saturday, we were walking home after a Noche de Hogar with some members and Elizabeth, and we saw a guy standing in the shadows on the sidewalk. As we got closer, we could see that he had a net, kinda like a piece of mesh, over his head. I said "Hola" and "Buenas noches" as we walked by and he just kinda watched us walk by without saying anything. But I saw his eyes very clearly, they were light blue with a glazed-over look. He wasn't drunk, but when we turned around about 5 seconds later, he was gone, he just disappeared. That was pretty spooky, I'll be honest. Oh, Elizabeth's friend Yenisse told me that she kinda knew Alex! He was never in her ward or anything but he was on divisions one day and they ate lunch there. So I thought that was pretty cool. We are trying to work hard and keep doing the things we should so hopefully we continue to receive small tender mercies. That's about it for this week. I love and miss you all and continue to keep you in my prayers. Have a great week!

With love,

Elder Jayson Welker

p.s. the bus is an actual dentist office where people get their teeth taken care of. And we have to walk across this bridge 3 or 4 times a week, it's pretty sketchy

Hola Everyone

Well this week went by pretty quick somehow even though the work was pretty slow. We really struggled finding many people to teach. But Elder Salmon and I are trying to have fun with it and just work through it. We were contacting on Tuesday and we were talking to a lady (well Elder Salmon was mostly) but she told me that I sounded like I was from Germany...I'm not sure if that is a good thing or a bad thing? But oh well at least I'll be unique I guess. Thursday was probably the most interesting day this week. I made doughnuts for us and for Elizabeth in the morning. They were pretty good if I say so myself. And then after lunch we had to go to a different sector to do a baptismal interview for another sector but the bus driver didn't know where we needed to get off so we went like 15 minutes past the sector. So we got on another bus and the same thing happened. So we just ended up walking there. It was kinda funny. And we were in the church printing off some stuff for Elder Salmon that the Zone Leaders had sent him, and there was a Rincón spider on the wall, dead. And then we found another one in the hall and it was stil half alive. Scared me pretty good because they are fast little buggers. And later that night we helped an Hermana in the branch trim her tree. The people here trim their trees every year, no matter what. And on Saturday there was a funeral for a man who had died from the branch. He was a firefighter here for like 40+ years, so there was a huge parade type thing for him. It was nice. Wow, a lot more happened this week than I had originally thought. Well I hope that you all have a great week. I love and miss you all!
